| HIDEAWAY BARN: THE SURROUNDING
AREA
Ruthwaite
is a peaceful hamlet just 15 minutes drive from Keswick with all
the attractions that Keswick has to offer - from walks up Scafell
Pike to shopping in Keswick itself. There is also a climbing
wall, mountain
bike hire, the puzzling
place, the Theatre
by the Lake and countless other activities here. Please see
www.keswick.org or www.dokeswick.com
for further details.

If you would prefer to remain in the calm and quiet
of Ruthwaite and the Bassenthwaite area then there are countless
walks right from the front door.

Nearby Ireby was once a busy market town and has a
church with parts dating back to the 12th Century. Visit the
Cumbria Directory for more information about Ireby.

Uldale is also close by with Mike's
Eye Gallery and Tea Rooms and the ever popular Snooty
Fox pub.

Nearby Bassenthwaite village is a popular starting
point to climb Skiddaw - one of the Lake District's highest mountains
... and there is always the Sun Inn when you've finished your walk
for a well earned pint of Cumberland Ale.
A half hour drive over the fells takes you to Carlisle,
Cumbria's Border City with a rich history and some good shopping.
There are usually some good bands playing or other entertainment
taking place at the Sand's
Centre in Carlisle.
