Whin Rigg is tucked down a quiet access only lane
that houses an interesting and varied array of cottages. Whin Rigg
is spacious with four bedrooms, two sitting rooms, kitchen and dining
room. It has a large south-west facing garden and patio from which
there are uninterrupted views of the Lake District fells.

Eskdale
is a wonderful starting point for hundreds of walks on the high
or low fells or along the valley. The River Esk flows from Scafell
Pike at the head of the valley to the sea at Ravenglass, through
crystal clear pools for swimming. It is popular for fishing and
canoeing as well as walks along its banks. The famous Ravenglass
& Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam
trains leisurely making the seven mile journey down to the old fishing
village of Ravenglass, often sunny when the high fells are clouded.
The Roman bath-house ruins are centuries old testimony to the attractions
of this stretch of coast.

There are five pubs in the valley, two of which are within walking
distance of the cottage (George
IV and the Bower
House Inn), all welcoming children and serving real ales and
a wide choice of good food. The village
shop and post office is just a two minute walk up Randlehow
Lane and
sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh
fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers, as well
as outdoor clothes and equipment.
